This information is now unmaintained. If you require any assistance, please contact Technical Services.

Configuration Procedures

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon, then the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  2. If the Make New Connection does not automatically open up, then double-click on the Make New Connection icon.
  3. Click Next. Enter the connection name SoC. You can use other names to describe this connection. Ensure that the modem selection is correct. Otherwise, click Configure to configure your modem now. Click Next to continue.

  4. Enter the telephone number. The Area code should be left blank. Ensure that Singapore (65) is selected for the country code.  Click Next to continue.

  5. Win95 will confirm your new connection. Click Finish. A new icon named SoC will be created in your Dial-Up Networking folder.

  6. Right-click SoC and select Properties. Ensure that the "Use country code and area code" box is not checked if you dial from Singapore.

  7. Click Server Type. Select PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet as type of dial-up server. Ensure that the "Enable software compression" and "TCP/IP" boxes are checked and all others not checked.

  8. Click TCP/IP Settings. Click on the "Server assigned IP address" and "Server assigned name server addresses" radio buttons. Ensure the "Use IP header compression" and "Use default gateway on remote network" boxes are checked.

  9. Click OK 2 times to complete.

The configuration procedure is completed. The new SoC connection icon in your Dial-Up Networking folder can now be used.

This configuration procedure only needs to be done once unless the telephone number and/or other configuration parameters need to be modified, or you need to recreate this connection icon.

Dialing in to SoC

  1. Click on the My Computer icon, then the Dial-Up Networking icon, then the SoC icon.
  2. Enter your SoC userid and password in the "User name" and "Password" fields respectively. Click Connect.
  3. Your modem will begin to call SoC. A Window will pop up upon successful connection to the server. If instead you hear a busy tone, then all the lines are busy and you will have to dial again.
  4. Once connected, a "connect to" dialog box appears. You can then start your winsock application such as netscape, telnet or ftp.
