About NOC Web

IP Telephony

This page is now obsolete.

IP Telephony (or IP Tel) is a telephone system that runs on an IP network. This will bring convergence of Data, Voice and Video into a single unified network using IP technologies. All previous PhoneNet phones (the current 6874xxxx NUS phone) have been migrated over to an IP Tel handset in 2005.

At this point, the IP Tel upgrade exercise is almost complete, except for the phasing-out of 6874xxxx number prefix. From June 2006, a call announcement service will greet callers to 6874xxxx numbers informing them to dial 6516xxxx instead. After July 2006, the 6874xxxx prefix will be permanently removed.
